Lifestyle, My Views

What is thing called lifestyle? Lifestyle – in my opinion, and broadly put, describes the way in which an individual, their family, their community, might perhaps choose to live their lives. This includes, their attitudes, behaviours and even their choice of possessions, their worldview and perceptions – be they personal or cultural – around their quality of life. It has got to do with how people respond to or cope with social, economic, physical and psychological conditions on a daily basis. How they decide to choose the food they eat, what they wear and most importantly the values, sense of identity and self-hood they decide to embrace… this to me is what defines – a lifestyle. What do you think? How doe Lifestyle affect the health?   Lifestyles is also about health and well-being.  How do we find balance – between looking good, feeling great, eating healthy, engaging in physical activities, maintaining…

Inadequate nutrient absorption can affect your looks! What is nutrient absorption? Absorption is a process of taking up nutrients from food that has been eaten. This is mainly the duty of the gut – the intestine. When the body is lacking in the nutrients that it needs to function properly, it will begin to give preference to other organs with  neglect of the rest. The essential organs that take in nutrients are the heart, brain, liver, kidneys. The physical parts of our body that make us beautiful like the hair, nails and skin, if neglected start to look awful. So if you want to start looking externally good, all you need do is begin to make sure that your body is getting all the nutrients it needs. Eat the right foods There are a whole lot of foods that will boost your body nutrient intake levels. These include a variety…

Skin – First Impressions Count

First impressions count We all know how the saying goes – first impressions count? Well, never could this be truer than when we talk about our skin. Yes, it is an organ – the largest organ in the body in fact – weighing almost 10 whopping kilograms (5 pounds) and making up about 15% of the weight of the average human being But it also has its functions: It is a protective layer shielding us against harmful substances and the harsh environment; regulating body temperature, storing water, fat and the much-vaunted vitamin d, and as part of the immune system guarding us from illness while interacting with our nerve cells. But the skin is also a– a physical canvas reflecting and projecting our inner selves, our lifestyles and our emotional, physiological and spiritual states of mind to ourselves and the world. Skin – a connector On the surface, the skin…

So what is holistic health after all?

So, What Is Holistic Health? Holistic Health is an ancient healing tradition, that dates back 5,000 years ago to mainly India and China. It buttresses living a healthy lifestyle in harmony with nature. Although the parlance holism was popularised in the 1920s as a way of viewing living things as “entities greater than and different from the sum of their parts,” the term holistic gained prominence in the 1970s as a common adjective in contemporary usage. An Approach to life Holistic Health is, in essence about adapting a wholesome “approach to” or “way of” life. Fundamentally speaking, it does not limit itself to illnesses or specific parts of the body, but considers the whole person that is, spirit, mind and body. The well-being of the holistic person depends on how one interacts with one’s environment. It embraces the connection of mind, body, and spirit to ultimately achieving exuberant balance. Holistic Health, is all about people taking…

Juice to boost your immune system

Juice to boost Your immune system Fresh juices can really save the day especially during the festive season when systems are under pressure. If you already juice on a regular basis, chances are your system is protected and you won’t even get sick. Why? Because we “catch” those pesky bacteria and viruses when our natural defences. are weak. Over-burdened System When our immune system is overburdened with all those inflammatory ingredients that just about every tasty bit of food is laden with these – especially during festive times when everything from eggnog to the cookies to the creamed vegetables and bread stuffing in the turkey, our bodies become worn out trying to digest, process and eliminate these foods that tax the liver, the kidneys, the pancreas, the lymphatic system – basically every organ that works so hard to keep us healthy and energised. Now, if you have been juicing regularly…

Pollution and your skin by Rumbi Serima-Fowler

Environmental pollution Air pollution and the skin – yes, it is true that the air around us can have an adverse effect not only our skin, our entire systems. It is therefore important and essential to have a ‘pamper day’. A time to rejuvenate and replenish your skin whilst providing it with nourishment to combat again damage. Recently I experienced the effects of environmental pollution first hand. I travelled to London from the South of England where I live on a day trip. I arrived at Victoria station just after 08.00 and the air smelt fresh and clean. After an eventful day I was ready to leave London… it was already 21:00 hrs. The first thing I noticed as got into the underground station was the smell. There air was thick and acidic…. almost acrid. I imagined how it would feel passing through this ‘smog’ if I had to commute daily…
