Digestion & Your Skin Health

Good Digestion Can Do Wonders For Your Skin!

The digestive system is a group of organs in your body. Its processes allow you to get rid of waste and absorb the nutrients you need for the healthy functioning of your body. Some external factors such as the intake of processed foods, chemicals in foods, antibiotics, and medications, can cause damage to your health and ultimately affect the skin. This means good digestion plays an important role in your skin health and skincare routine.

Skin Conditions & Digestion

During my years of practice, I have discovered that that the skin has a great connection with the digestive system. Many people that suffer from skin problems especially facial conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis or rosacea, are often surprised to learn that these conditions may be linked to digestion. Dry and flaky skin may just be a sign that your body is low in the enzyme lipase and cannot properly digest fat. Additionally, if your digestive system cannot properly break down food, you cannot get all of the benefits that vitamins like vitamins  A, K, and E can offer to your skin.

3 Simple Vitamins for Your Skin
Try Vitamin A

This is very essential for preventing acne, repairing skin, and boosting the immune system to ward off acne-causing bacteria. When it is lacking in the skin there will room for bacteria to invade.

How about Vitamin K?

This vitamin speeds up healing and prevents pimples. It is vital in fighting acne.

Then Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect the skin and keeps it healthy. If the balance between good and bad bacteria in your gut is not at par, you may experience inflammation that leads to uneven skin tone. Chronic inflammation can also cause a breakdown in collagen, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin.

In Summary

The digestive system – starts from the mouth all the way through to the anus – alimentary canal – it’s responsible for absorbing nutrients, housing both helpful and harmful bacteria and excreting waste. If you can improve the digestive system you will significantly improve your health. It has been scientifically shown that improved digestive system helps skin health, immune function, mood, and energy levels. So it makes a whole lot of sense that the health of your gut is essential to having glowing, clear skin!
